Sage Carrington at the National Zoo Aviary

Holding a Baby Bird at the National Zoo Aviary

I rode down Connecticut Avenue to the National Zoo this morning. With over 2,000 animals, the zoo is one of my favorite places in all of Washington. So far today I’ve seen the giraffes, lions, zebras…oh, and the giant pandas were soooo cute!

Then walked over to the aviary—that’s where the birds are. Aside from eagles, condors, and penguins (penguins!!) they had a hands on exhibit…and guess what? I got a chance to hold 3 of the birds! Check out this little guy in my hands. He’s so calm and well behaved. The zookeeper says the baby bird likes me!

My favorite animals are birds because they live my dreams every single day. I’ve spent my whole life preparing to fly, and I’m not going to give up until Isabel and I finally soar into the sky. That’s also why I love visiting the National Air & Space Museum and launching model rockets. I study everything that takes flight.

Before I leave today, I want to check out the elephants and bears. Plus Isabel is meeting me later after her dance class. She loves to photograph the jaguars.

Have you ever been to a zoo? If so, what’s your favorite animal?
